[Locomotive-users] new installation causing browser preview problems

after installing the new 2.0.8 update on an intel imac i now cannot
preview my rails apps in the browser:

Safari can't open the page "http://localhost:3000/" because it could
not connect to the server "localhost".

leaving off the port number still connects me to my default holding
page so apache itself seems to be functioning fine.

if i switch to using lighttpd instead i simply get a 500 internal
error when trying to preview.

also makes no difference if i switch bundles for the app.

anyone else have this problem and if so how did you fix it?
